Sinusoidal profiles are a modern expansion joint solution that significantly improves the comfort and durability of industrial floors in industrial and logistics facilities. In situations where heavy traffic is expected (forklifts, transport vehicles), it's worth considering sinusoidal profiles as effective floor edge protection.
A characteristic feature of sinusoidal profiles is the wavy geometry of the edge connecting the floor slabs. This means that the upper edge is not straight, but wavy, increasing the contact surface between adjacent floor segments. In practice, this means that vehicle wheels have continuous support when negotiating expansion joints, regardless of wheel diameter or tire hardness. This method of load transfer reduces shock and vibration, which reduces damage to the concrete edges and minimizes wheel wear. Furthermore, sinusoidal profiles can act as durable formwork for concrete floors, while ensuring effective load transfer thanks to integrated dowels and a steel structure. This solution is particularly recommended for production halls, high-bay warehouses, logistics centers, or other areas with heavy forklift traffic.
Compared to classic (straight industrial) profiles, sinusoidal profiles are significantly more resistant to edge damage and micro-cracks. While installing such a system requires greater precision and can be more expensive, the benefits in areas with heavy use outweigh the additional repair costs.
When planning a floor in a high-traffic facility, the use of sinusoidal profiles should be considered at the design stage. Consideration should be given to floor parameters such as concrete thickness, subfloor structure, anticipated loads, and types of transport. In logistics halls and high-bay warehouses, steel versions with dowels spaced at least 600 mm apart are recommended, ensuring stable connections and even load transfer. In areas where heavy forklifts with hard wheels and shock-sensitive goods are used, sinusoidal profiles minimize the risk of load damage and equipment wear. It is also advisable to regularly inspect the joints for necessary maintenance, which extends the floor's trouble-free life.
Using sinusoidal profiles such as NS or NC profiles can achieve significant savings on floor repair costs, wheel replacement, and product damage, while also improving the comfort and safety of forklift operators.
